I, Shannon King do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the Officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God!

Shannon King took this oath on June 4, 1991 when he enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard. This oath does not have an expiration date.

Recently Bland county native Shannon King retired from the United States Coast Guard, after serving for over 25 years. He was honored with an elaborate retirement ceremony with full honors. Attending were his family: wife Julie Simonds King, their sons, Kyle and Dillian, his mother Brenda Wagner King, and his sister Sara King, as well as several family friends.

Shannon's last duty station was in Boston, MA.

Main Propulsion Assistant at USCGC Forward
Now lives in Brasher Falls, New York

USCGC Forward (WMEC-911) is a United States Coast Guard medium endurance cutter. Named for Walter Forward, fifteenth United States Secretary of the Treasury, she was constructed by Robert Derecktor Shipyard Incorporated, Middletown, Rhode Island was delivered in May 1989, and commissioned 4 August 1990. We welcome Shannon King into the Bland County hall of Fame.
